Who We Are

We are a mother-daughter team with a love and appreciation of all things sewn. Stitched Sewing Studio is a continuation of our many joint ventures.

Elizabeth Winchester is the daughter half of the team. She graduated from IU with a degree in graphic design & IT and immediately took off to live in San Francisco for the next 6 years with her then fiance (now husband). She worked first as a webmaster and then returned to school to study accounting, all the while fitting in little sewing projects to brighten up their apartments on a tight budget. During her 5 years as a CPA at a public accounting firm, she developed a love of teaching others that surprised even her! Training associates and other staff has been the one thing she misses the most from that time. The birth of Elizabeth's first child brought things full-circle as she returned to Bloomington and began the creative work of making clothes for her little girl. Not long after, Curly Pigtails was born as her first business. The back room of Stitched is the new home of Curly Pigtails, and many new dresses and accessories are sure to come out of that space! That space is also the home of Bets & Mags, the combined effort of Elizabeth & Maggie, in which they create an incredible assortment of plush food and baby toys and accessories. In addition to sewing, Elizabeth enjoys knitting, crocheting, drawing & painting.

Maggie Selo is the mother half of the Stitched team. She began sewing as a young girl by making doll clothes with her aunt's help. By the time she was in high school, she had her own sewing machine and was making clothes for herself. Maggie graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in math education and taught math for many years in a variety of schools, from junior high to community college. She continued sewing, switching from clothes for herself to clothes, costumes, and toys for her children, and later for her grandchildren. Although she has dabbled in a variety of other crafts and has closets full of equipment, materials, and UFOs (unfinished objects), her first love remains sewing. Maggie currently lives in Lafayette, where her husband is employed, but since retiring from Purdue University as a continuing lecturer in the Academic Success Center, she travels to Bloomington frequently. Together she and Elizabeth work on various projects for their business Bets & Mags. She is eagerly looking forward to returning to teaching and hopes she can instill her love of sewing in all her Stitched students!

Our Community

We are more than the sum of our parts, and we couldn't take on our big goals without the help of some wonderful people in our community.

Join us for one of her classes and you will be thrilled with the bag you take home! She's also a behind-the-scenes advisor, photographer and friend.
