Friday's Featured Fabric

Hey Stitchers! It's been quiet on the blog for a while now, but we're trying to get back in the swing of things! One thing we're going to start doing is featuring a fabric each Friday. Did you know that in addition to our classes, we also have fabric and supplies available for sale??

While we do carry some quilting cotton, a lot of our fabrics are slightly different from the standard bolts you find in the big fabric stores. Today's featured fabric is an organic cotton voile from Cloud 9. What makes voile (pronounced like foil with a "v") different from quilting cotton? Basically it's lighter weight and semi-transparent, but honestly that description doesn't do this particular version justice. It's super soft, silky, and just downright luxurious. Not to mention that the colors are gorgeous and flattering for most skin tones. I couldn't resist - I had to make something with it! I went with a basic sleeveless v-neck shift dress that I fully lined with a yellow lawn I had in my stash from another project. I think this fabric would also be lovely unlined as a swimsuit coverup or a loose tunic worn over a cami with leggings - it's so light and flowy that it's perfect for the heat of summer or even those last hot days of fall. It would also be great made into a layering piece going into the cooler days of fall and winter, maybe as a tank or short-sleeved top to wear with a cardigan. It will become a staple in your wardrobe, I have no doubt! Oh, and did I mention that it washes beautifully? And dries quickly and mostly wrinkle-free (especially if you pull it out right away while it's still ever so slightly damp)? Give it a try! You'll fall in love with voile....

I haven't convinced you?? Or just need some more inspiration? Here are some patterns that would work great with voile:

Akita by Seamwork

Cambie Dress by Sewaholic

Tortola Tank by Sisboom
